Beginning Translations! also help?
Posted on: 03/18/12 05:05AM

I have taken enough Japanese to feel comfortable attempting EASY translations... My kanji is super weak, but I can translate just about any kana phrases and sentences as I understand the flow now. Also, I will not translate anything I feel unsure on. If I feel I have it, but there might be something off, I'll leave a comment... I have two questions.

1. Are we removing the "translation_request" tags after we complete the request? Or leaving it open for second attempts/correcting?
--> I've done that to a couple easy ones where the translation was the equivolent of "what?" or something similar. I don't remove them on ones that are mroe difficult and where I've left a comment about my translation.

2. Any easy translation requests? note: I suck at kanji, so the less there are, the better.

Any tips from other translators? I'm kinda doing this in my spare time to help learn Japanese, but mainly here to help as much as I can. I want to give back to Gelbooru after I've gained so much.

Remove it if it's done, add check_translation if you're unsure.

Remember the IME drawing pad. That's the best advice I have for you.

Yeah that is a nice tool :)

I've been chugging away in the translation_request tag home, also taking part in check_translation for the easy ones. Trying to help out how I can. It's taking me a long time, since this is the first time I've tried translating something other than schoolwork, but my confidence level is high. I find myself using the check_translation tag more on other people's work since I come to a different translation myself.. could be inexperience with slang or popular phrases. This is fun :)
