I noticed that a lot of pictures by bee-j1 have been deleted. Like: gelbooru.com/index.php?page=post&s=view&id=929254

Reason: doujin

Were they really part of a doujin though? They were like the little comic strips that Japanese artists do a lot. They might have been mistaken for a doujin though since bee-j1 does do a lot of one page (sometimes a small series) comics like this. Just thought I'd ask since I enjoy the translations that usually end up getting done in these booru sites.

Thanks you for your consideration.

Looks like a doujin to me. *shrug*

Wrong deletions: Moomin

The following is Japanese art as far as I know:

gelbooru.com/index.php?page=post&s=view&id=933151
gelbooru.com/index.php?page=post&s=view&id=933152
gelbooru.com/index.php?page=post&s=view&id=933154
gelbooru.com/index.php?page=post&s=view&id=933155
gelbooru.com/index.php?page=post&s=view&id=933156
gelbooru.com/index.php?page=post&s=view&id=933157
gelbooru.com/index.php?page=post&s=view&id=933158
gelbooru.com/index.php?page=post&s=view&id=933159

933155 & 933157 both display Japanese text. I believe this to be proof that these two pictures are official art from the Japanese studios that produced the anime series, whether of 1969, 1972 or 1990-1991 I cannot say for sure.

The other six images are in the same style and I believe from the same artist(s).

Now this is only supposition, but I think all images come from this series:

www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=2006

The artist would then be Nakura Yasuhiro, which should not be surprising at all.

benippon.com/en/yasuhiro-nakura-moomin-works

Another thing I forgot to mention: the colours of the characters match those used in the Japanese series. For instance, Moomin is sometimes unaccountably light blue in these whereas he is always white in the original books & comics written & drawn by Tove Jansson.

If this is not Japanese art, which I doubt completely, then it is very much done in the style of the anime series. Confusingly so, I might add. I'll try to find more information later.

I'm assuming whoever deleted them mistook it for the Swedish/Finnish Moomin books/comic strip. It's been made into a TV show in several countries.

All deleted by maniacal_tentacle_monster. No matter, results of my research follow. Sorry for length, got carried away, I guess. ^^;

I still can't find conclusive evidence but I'm very close to it. At any rate, I'm now convinced it's official art from the 3rd anime series, for the character design of the earlier shows is far less well done.

Tracking the source of images 2 & 4 of the set I uploaded gets this:

wallpaper.avantzone.com > Cartoon > japanese cartoon & comic > Moomin Valley

Moomin Valley (short for Tales from Moomin Valley, I suppose) seems to be one of the translations of Tanoshī Mūmin Ikka (literally: Delightful Moomin Family), the 1990-1991 TV Series.

Googling Moomin Valley shows:

www.google.com/images?um=...in+Valley&btnG=Search

Some Tanoshī Mūmin Ikka results:

www.animetaku.com/img/anime/3/4683.jpg
img2.ak.crunchyroll.com/i...083191249771190_large.jpg
files.myopera.com/opera%2...3%E3%80%80%281%29-cut.JPG

More of the same on these Official Sites:

www.hihirecords.com/moomin/
www.moomin.co.jp/gallery/gallery.php?id=10
www.moomin.co.jp/gallery/gallery.php?id=11

Style is the same, colouring is consistent & the bucolic themes dominate.

On the other hand, Tove Marika Jansson's drawing style & the one I've been familiar with since early childhood looks very different:

beyondsizes.files.wordpress.com/2009/11/mumin1.jpg
inter9.tampere.fi/muumila...kso/images/nayttelyt1.jpg

It dates back to the 1940's & 1950's, so it's quite obvious to me that the 8 "offending" images have nothing in common with it but the subject. Even more so with the black & white comic books:

2.bp.blogspot.com/_ZaTCJM...s400/community.moomin.gif
foundationbristol.org/wp-...1/Moomin-panel-747959.jpg

I'll keep on searching for the source of the exact pictures I uploaded. No luck yet, but not losing hope. @_@;

Something at long last!

As luck would have it, the only evidence I could find up till now is in Spanish, a language I've never learnt. However I speak French so I'll give everyone a laugh and attempt a translation of the text directly above & below the 3rd image from the top (also the 1st of the uploaded set).

www.bajandomelo.com/index.php/topic,2084.html

With time, the Moomins had their own animated series which were done by different companies. The most recent one is the European-Japanese collaboration which also produced feature-length films. [note: Finnish/Dutch/Japanese coproduction]

The Moomin Boom (Muumibuumi in Finnish*) began in the '90's, when Dennis Livson and Lars Jansson** produced a 104 episodes' series entitled Tales from Moominvalley (el Valle Moomin in Spanish), which was sequelled by the feature-length film 'Comet in Moominland' (Un cometa en la Tierra Moomin).

* wasn't aware there'd been one but I wasn't a child anymore by then, so ...
** brother of Tove & 2nd creator of the comics

That seems to me conclusive evidence. Original artist would then be Animation Director & Character Designer Nakura Yasuhiro or then the collective team of artists from Japanese studios Tele-Image Japan Inc. & Visual 80. This adds more weight to the first idea and 6 of 8 images are illustrations anyway:

It's not perfect, but I still don't agree that it should be considered "bad art". The complaints you have about it don't seem to be that big of a deal either, considering the most high-res of pics can still have "flat" faces among other things, and with all the foot fetish pics I upload, there have been plenty of other pictures where feet are drawn in weird ways.

If this site is gonna have stricter qualifications and standards, it'll be Danbooru.

I agree, you guys are deleting fabulous art for stupid reasons.

Stop it.
