Imagine being so new to the internet that this is somehow the stupidest thing you've seen.

I meant Neo-nazism as in the fact Nessa's in a nazi uniform beyond the year 1945. And no, it's silly to think the artist's a neo-nazi because one troll artwork. But the glorification of Nazis is quite dumb and pointless in my opinion, even if it's just to troll people who were talking about nessa's skin color.

Fair enough. At least they kept her skin color and drew her attractively. I vaguely recall seeing a silverback Nessa somewhere, back when Sword and Shield controversies were more prominent.

Imo I think the artist made it to make fun of neo-nazis but it's still edgelord tier

The entire Nessa controversy was stupid anyway, on both sides. It was ridiculous to get upset over some japanese fan-arts giving her slightly lighter skin. But it was also ridiculous to purposely whitewash her, and for this idiotic picture, stoop as to low as to draw her plastered with all the Nazi symbols you can think of.

Actually come to think of it, one side saw a mere mistake as some sort of racial injustice, the other side decided the smartest thing to do was by doing intentionally racist shit in the name of "trolling". Now that sounds like something we're all too famillar with, doesn't it?

I'm not sure it's even the stupidest thing I've seen on the Internet today, much less ever. There's always someone out there ready to do something even dumber.

Incidentally, when did "edgy" become synonymous with "racist"? A mere few years ago it was still reserved for trying too hard to look cool, usually with blood, knives, katanas, death metal, and similar themes. Like... Coldsteel the Hedgehog.

Because racism is a really hot button issue these days, and edgy is all about being a shocking tryhard, isn't it?

My theory is that, well, everyone grew up. As kids and young teenagers during the 2000's, shadow the hedgehog shooting people to death with blood everywhere while linkin park death metal remixes blare in the background would've been shocking at the time. That stuff wouldn't phase anyone now, now that times have changed and we're all grown up. The final frontier of "ow the edge" concern real world issues like racism and war crimes. If you're still an attention seeking edgelord, then spamming the n-word and circlejerking nazi's is a failproof way to get eyes on you.

The difference though is that no one's going to think your a shitty human being for liking death metal or happy tree friends. Racism on the internet, however, well that can either go "you're just trolling" or "you're a shitty human being".

I'm not so sure if that was ever shocking... except to boomers, maybe. Shadow was always considered pretty cringy as far as I can remember. Linkin Park was a bit emo, but pretty mainstream music for millennials. As for millennials and zoomers being 'grown up'? THAT's a good joke. Either way, I don't really buy that anyone's trying to 'look cool' by acting racist, which is what edgy is (or was) used to to describe... unless one is to think racism is cool. Are they trying to troll sheltered white kids that have a tendency to throw tantrums and speak on behalf of other races? Sure. Is it a quick way to get attention? Of course. Conversations between adults now are often reminiscent of elementary school, where everyone was incredibly (and awkwardly) careful about not saying the wrong words or making the wrong implications, and some kids would say "fuck" for attention (and to get everyone worked up).

The words of strangers on the internet have no inherent value unless you assign value to them. "Don't feed the trolls" is eternal wisdom.

While the definition has different meanings, it's still a catch-all term for someone trying to look extreme, shocking, or sharp-edged (hence the word edgy.) Like trying hard to look super badass (and failing miserably), or trying to shock people by believing in things considered offensive. Either way, it's mostly used nowadays in a mocking way. Edgy in the context of the Nessa photo was probably something like "well if those pussies got so mad over whitewashing, then those pussies are gonna fucking explode to death once they see her as a literal Nazi! LOL TRIGGERED PWNED!!1one"

But what if it's not trolling? :thinkingemoji:

Then their words still have no value~

We have better things to do than pay heed to the ramblings of a fool, non? There are bills to pay, games to play, and anime girls to coom to.
