"SimilarTo_(Character)" New tag request
Posted on: 02/24/21 06:28PM

Basically this tag would be used when there are two characters with similar some PHYSICAL and FACIAL characteristics that doesn't have tags for them. Every person has a different face but there are some unique details that are very hard to describe and making tags for each of them would be almost impossible (And most of them wouldn't even be used).

A case where this tag could be used:

For example, I love the appearance of Yuri from Doki Doki Literature Club (gelbooru.com/index.php?pa..._doki_literature_club%29+). Today I found this pic (gelbooru.com/index.php?pa...5855184&tags=cum_pool) and I really thought it was Yuri drawn in a different style, I was really sure that it was her until I saw the character tag and realized it wasn't. After that I tried using tags like "Purple_hair, Long_hair, Medium_breasts, purple_eyes" and tried to find pics of characters similar to her but I couldn't (Of course it is possible but it might take some time).

This could've been easily solved just by searching "similarto_yuri_(doki_doki_literature_club)". This can save you if a character you like doesn't have many images here but you want to see more of her/him.

This would be the first subjective tag but I'm sure it would help a lot because things like this are kinda common. Other example would also be with Saber (Fate) and Violet (Violet evergarden) that have images where one looks very similar to another (Not all of them) and the same goes for many characters that I don't even know.

The only rule for this tag would be "The character that appears in the image HAVE to be easily mistaken by another one".

I'd love to know what the community and mods think about this and if they would allow this tag to start being used

this seems like it would get really complicated really fast imo

It isn't possible for this to be done as a single tag the way you're describing. Each character's "similarto_*" would need to be its own tag. These would need to be added and maintained manually.

This would introduce an absolutely ridiculous number of additional tags. We just started getting rid of the "*_(cosplay)" because it was out of hand, and that's for an objective similarity.

Can you imagine the mess on images of a character with long dark hair in a himecut with dark-colored eyes if this got implemented and widely used? There'd be at least 30 separate "similarto_*" tags just for that character. If you've also got a blonde with a short bob or a girl with short pink twintails in the same image, you might end up with more of these tags than general tags, even if you tag every little detail.

I think your best bet is to make pools instead. For cases where the resemblance is clearly intentional, you can often use "parody" and the normal character and copyright tags for the character being parodied.

Not to be [more of] a pain in the ass [than usual], but pools aren't terribly useful until we can actually search for them. I don't much want to sift through 412 pages in hopes of finding a niche topic I might be interested in exploring.

They are less of a pain in the ass than adding dozens of extra tags to posts, and having to work around them when dealing with other tags. To a user using them, they're moderately useful, but to users who don't use them, they're in the way, and to staff trying to make sure posts get tagged properly, they're hours and hours of extra work when we're already stretched thin.
