Google is now going bonkers with 2FA too arstechnica.com/gadgets/2...y-enrolling-users-in-2fa/. And to enable it, they need your phone.

That's their version of 2FA where it asks you to confirm logins on another device already logged into the account and trusted. If you don't have a phone or tablet where you're logged into that account, it won't get turned on automatically. This version of 2FA is as simple as it gets.

I'm pretty sure they've been doing this for a while now, because when I added my gaming account to my phone after having to factory reset it, it popped up on my tablet asking me to confirm the login. That was a few months ago, and I don't have regular 2FA turned on on that account. (I have a separate account for games because of back when Google was trying to force Google+ on everyone. You had to have a G+ profile to use Google Play Games back then, and I didn't want one tied to my main account.)

Except for the fact that I've been logging onto that account for 3 years straight on a new PC. So google's claim that "the device isn't reconigzed" is an utter lie. If so, it should've done it after the first few days when I began logging in from a new PC.

Did you start using a new browser? That'll trigger it, even on the same PC. If you upgraded your browser for the first time in several months it can also trigger it. It doesn't usually trigger if your browser's upgraded regularly, though.

Took you quite some time to answer that comment haha, you sure have lots of accounts. Because i am not that privacy concerned i enabled 2FA with google years ago, i am not doing illegal things, and i am the only one that use my devices so, why bother?

I missed it before, seems the thread didn't show as unread to me earlier.

I ended up with multiple accounts for lots and lots of reasons, it wasn't all about privacy. For example I have lastname@, firstinitiallastname@, and firstinitialmiddleinitiallastname@ gmail just because I was able to snag them all and I have an account in my dad's name I used when he was job-hunting. He's not good with technology, so I monitored it for any messages he needed to respond to. I do have regular 2FA enabled on my main one with my real name, the others I don't really care because they're not linked to things that are important.

It happens to me sometimes. I just check anyway to see if someone said something.
laura.loli accounts: One for looking at cute cat videos, one for asking for food, one for lolis, one for gaming, one for fapping, one for turbo fapping, one for taxi and one for dad (?
I just have like 2 accounts. Fapping and turbo fapping of course.

Not quite that compartmentalized, no. ( ゚∀゚)ア ʱªʱªʱªʱªʱªʱªʱªʱªʱªʱªʱªʱªʱªʱªʱª

They just developed over time for the most part. I have some I haven't logged into in years. I'm going to have to change that behavior though, since Google's decided to start purging the content of accounts that haven't had a login in two years beginning in July. See the link below. I'll just start going through and logging into them all once a year.

Thankfully I got access to my gmail account again. The older one, not the newer one. I'd like to briefly apologize to google's systems..... for only a brief second.

Hopefully this crap doesn't happen again. Which it probably will.
