Sure, the harem gathering main character is cliche, but that doesn't matter. It is going nowhere since it can make the game more interesting, especially in terms of routes and dialogue choices.

For me it's always been like this: we all know what's happens to aerial, unfortunately. But, I've always imagined her being with cloud in the end, if she never dies. Tifa seems right with Barret. They seem right for each other. Plus, Riga just looks like the type that'd be into black dudes anyways.

But Zach does. So there's the slightest possibility that Aeris and Yuffie have met... And while Cloud was recovering and Tifa was off doing Avalanche stuff, Yuffie WAS on their continent...
My conspiracy theory is thus: Yuffie stalked Zach, eventually crossed paths with people connected to him, and with other anti-Shinra forces, and maybe, just MAYBE that meeting in the forest wasn't really a 1/16 chance random encounter...

It may depend how soon or putting things off on getting Yuffie. Personally I go looking for Yuffie in the big forest as you exit the first cave.
