I don't remember Aeris being this nice or friendly to Tifa. Actually, I remember her being pretty insensitive to Tifa for the most part.

Actually she pronounced Tifa as her great friend numerous times in the game that's why she never asked Cloud out she knew Tifa liked him a lot. Tifa also said she was a great person and that she was her friend as well.

@ anon 1&2 they were in fact best friends throughout the game when they werent competing for cloud. and yes depending on how you played the game it was either aerith or tifa who asked him on a date at the gold saucer
