I think Goblin Slayer was just trying to make monsters monstrous again. I think we have become so used to moral grey stories that many cannot except a villain or race who are simply evil by nature or have a simply yet evil motive. Many of us today expect a villain or monster to have a tragic and complex backstory or a sympathetic or understandable motive, that we forget that some things simply are just black & white, and some are just evil for evil`s sake, or, again, simply by nature.

While cases of things being "evil by nature" do exist IRL, it doesn't apply to any one race. Still, though, I see where you're coming from.
