I never said I hated her. I relate with her about as much as I do with Rei and Shinji for obviously different reasons.

But the whole point of her character is that she's NOT a winner. In theory, she's an overachiever, but in practice, she is constantly making mistakes and the worst choices possible.

She is a loser. That's the whole point of her character. That, no matter how hard she tries, she'll never be good enough.

you missed the point of the show chief, this isint just another monster of the week mecha show where the protag is supposed to succeed through conventional tropes and formulas, nge was made to be an antithesis of the genre and at its core a study on the human condition.... i cant be too mad at these shiet takes, public education is an embarrassment.

but ill digress for a second, asuka has been getting dragged since the original series, the rebuilds dont bring her any real positive changes or improvements, shes just a clone even that possibly shacked up with kensuke a few times... and is still a total bitch. toxic=/=winning. trauma and personal issues aside her good points dont exactly save her, and her popularity is unfounded she wouldent even acknowledge half her fanbase cause most of them are simps.
