Now Viewing: love_hinaTag type: Copyright (ラブ ひな) A wacky harem comedy series created by Akamatsu_Ken. It debuted on October 21, 1998 and ended on October 31, 2001. It is his major breakthrough work and his first manga to be adapted into an anime. The manga sold over 16 million copies in Japan and over 1 million anime DVDs of the series were sold. It was voice actress Horie Yui's (Narusegawa Naru) breakthrough as a voice actress and singer It has been adapted into an anime TV series, OVAs, and a few specials but the anime never got to the ending of the manga. It has also received video game and novel adaptations. The anime is directed by Iwasaki Yoshiaki and written by Hazuki Kurou. Characters are designed by Uno_Makoto. Music is composed by Korenaga Koichi. It tells the story of Urashima Keitaro, a down on his luck young man who has consistently failed to get into Tokyo University, a fact that frustrates his parents. Despite these setbacks, he refuses to give up his dream of going there because as a child, he made a promise to a close female friend that he would go there with her though his memory of her is foggy at best. One day, his grandmother invites him to stay at the Hinata House, which she owns, to study. Keitaro takes up the offer, but when he goes there, his grandmother is nowhere to be seen, and he soon discovers the hard way that everyone in Hinata House is female and that he is now the manager of the place! Keitaro struggles to pass his tests and deal with the mischievous residents' shenanigans and along the way he builds close relationships with the residents. Narusegawa Naru, in particular, becomes his study partner. Keitaro also gradually realizes that one of residents at Hinata Inn may be the little girl he made a promise to when he was young . . . The series is also inspired by the extremely popular dating sim Tokimeki Memorial and quite a few of the story ideas resemble those in said game. The manga notably uses a digital editing process where a rough sketch is created and the page layout and design is drawn and scanned into an Apple Macintosh. The major page elements were then shaded or filled with patterns, and elements that were drawn separately were added digitally to the page. Instead of constantly redrawing an environment by hand, banked images (basic line drawings that form the base of an environment), were used. Many of the locations in the series are based off of photographs of real life places.
