It is the first of the storybook themed Sonic platformers, followed by Sonic_and_the_Black_Knight. This game is based off of Arabian Nights and Sonic's friends Tails and Knuckles appear in this game playing the roles of characters that appeared in Arabian Nights. The game was produced and directed by Ogawa Yojiro. Music is composed by Tokoi Kenichiro and Kumatani Fumie, Okamoto Seirou, and Kobayashi Hideaki. The vocal songs are performed by Steve Conte and Runblebee. After reading Arabian Nights, Sonic goes to bed, but he is awoken by a female genie named Shahra. She asks for Sonic's help because a malevolent genie named Erazor Djinn is erasing the pages of Arabian Nights. Sonic agrees to help her and the two dive into the book to stop Erazor. When the two encounter Erazor, he tells them that he's looking for the World Rings which Shahra claims don't exist. After Sonic takes a magical fiery arrow to the heart protecting Shahra, Erazor decides to force Sonic to find the rings for him. If Sonic can retrieve the rings, Erazor will remove the arrow from his body. If Sonic can't do so before the arrow's flame burns out, Sonic dies. Sonic teams up with Shahra to find the rings.
