The meme is based off of a stock photo taken by Antonio Guillem on November 2, 2015 that showed a man staring at another woman while walking with his girlfriend. Guillem labeled his photo "Disloyal man with his girlfriend looking at another girl" The photo became a meme on January 30th, 2017 when the Prog Düşmanlarına Verilen Müthiş Cevaplar Facebook page reposted the photo but added captions indicating the man represents singer Phil Collins, the women distracting the man represents pop music, and the girlfriend represents Prog music, as a reference to the singer's career. The meme spread with some users reposting the photo with other captions, and artists redrawing the image but with other characters replacing the originals. The meme's name was steadily distilled down from Guillem's original description to Distracted Boyfriend. It is also known as Man Looking at Other Woman.
