Now Viewing: final_fightTag type: Copyright Covers the entire series. Final Fight is a beat 'em up series developed by Capcom. The original game debuted in 1989 at the arcades. The series takes place in the same universe as Street_Fighter and a few of its characters have appeared in Street Fighter games, like Cody_Travers, Gai_(Final_Fight) (Guy), Genryuusai_Maki, Hugo_Andore (based on the Andore enemy), Poison_(Final_Fight), Rolento, and Sodom. The original game was designed by Nishitani Akira, Yasuda_Akira, and Okamoto Yoshiki. Yasuda Akira also designed the characters. Nishitani and Yasuda would go on to work on the iconic and influential 2D fighting game Street_Fighter_II. Although Cody was intended to be the hero of the first game, Mayor Mike_Haggar displaced him in popularity and became the protagonist of the series and whenever trouble starts brewing in Metro City, he takes to the streets along with two other characters (different in each game) and together they beat up thugs with their hands and various objects. The series has received two additional sequels/spinoffs to the beat 'em up trilogy, Final Fight Revenge (3D fighting game), and Final Fight Streetwise. The latter has never been released in Japan and is possibly non-canonical. The games were inspired by the 1984 action film Streets_of_Fire (which was very popular in Japan, much more than it was in its native country, United States) with Cody and Jessica_Haggar being inspired by Tom Cody and Ellen Aim respectively. The plot of the game and the film also involved the hero rescuing the female lead from being captured by a ruthless gang. The franchise has been mostly stagnant after the 2000s, but its characters are popular enough to continue to appear outside of their own series. Mike Haggar recently appeared as a playable character in Marvel_vs._Capcom_3.
