Unlike past Gundam TV shows, the series follows a release schedule that became more popular in the late 2010s- early 2020s. Its story is split across multiple batches of 12 episodes instead of a continuous 20+ episode weekly release. The series started with a prologue episode that was released on July 14, 2022, which was followed by a web novel titled Yuri Kago no Hoshi (Cradle Star). The main series started with the first batch of episodes that ran from October 2, 2022 to January 8, 2023. The second season ran from April 9, 2023 to July 2, 2023. The anime was directed by Kobayashi Hiroshi and Andou Ryou. It was written by Oukouchi Ichirou who had previously written another Sunrise mecha anime, Code Geass. The soundtrack was composed by Ohmama Takeshi who had previously composed the music for Gundam Twilight Axis. The characters were designed by Mogumo. The mechs were designed by JNTHED, Gyoubu_Ippei, Ebikawa_Kanetake, Inaba Kou (Inawata), and Yanase_Takayuki. The series is set in the Ad Stella timeline. The galaxy is split between two factions, the people from space colonies (Spacians) and the people from Earth (Earthians). One company, the Vanadis Institute, has created a revolutionary technology called the GUND, which will help people survive in space. In spite of this tech's ability to save many people's lives, militaries have decided to use it as a tool of war, outfitting mobile suits with the tech. The GUND is incredibly powerful, but also very dangerous for its pilots with many dying in battle as a direct consequence of pushing the GUND too far. In response, the tech has been banned with the Mobile Suit Development Council ordering a witch hunt to eliminate anyone involved with the GUND. The series follows Suletta Mercury, a teen girl from the mining colony of Mercury, who enrolls in the elite school of Asticassia. Many key members of the student body there are the children of powerful businessmen. Suletta has had little interaction with others her age and is very different from many of her wealthy peers at school, so the awkward girl feels like a fish out of water. However, she is perfectly confident when piloting a mecha and she brings her personal mech, Aerial, to the school. Suletta is a selfless girl wants to attend the school in order to eventually give back to Mercury, and her own selflessness gets her involved in inter-company conflict when she protects Miorine Rembran from her fiance Guel Jeterk. Guel is furious with Suletta's defense of Miorine and challenges her to a mecha duel, the official way of resolving conflicts at Asticassia. Suletta accepts and wins the duel, and as a result, she becomes Miorine's new fiance. In spite of Suletta's simple ambitions, her actions drag her and Miorine into a cold war between corporations that is at the risk of turning hot. With Suletta's decisive victory, all eyes are now on her and her mech which is suspiciously similar to the banned GUND-powered mechs of decades past, and various factions seek to get their hands on the machine at any cost. . . This installment is notable for not only starring a female protagonist but for also lacking any male lead. The two central characters of the story are both female and this series has a larger quantity of female characters than most Gundam works although there are still many prominent male characters.
