Now Viewing: negative_spaceTag type: General Negative space is a technique in drawing (and art in general) where a shape is "drawn" in the empty part of an image. I.e. edge(s) of explicitly drawn shape(s) make another, implicit, shape. A good example is the black and white checkerboard drawn on white paper: the artist only has to paint black squares, while white squares appear implicitly in the empty areas without actually being drawn.
