It was released on November 15, 2011 for the PC, XBox 360 and Playstation 3. The 3rd Street Saints are bigger than they ever were before. They are not only a powerful crime organization, but also a celebrity crime organization complete with a devoted fan base and have endorsed various products. However, things are not entirely smooth for the Saints. After a bank robbery goes wrong, Boss, Johnny Gat, and Shaundi are arrested. The three of them are freed by a more traditional mafia boss named Philippe Loren, the leader of the Syndicate. He takes them aboard his private jet and wants the Saints to give 2/3rds of their business in Stilwater. The trio refuse and fight their way out but only Boss and Shauni escape while Johnny apparently dies. Boss and Shaundi land in the city of Steelport which is controlled by the Syndicate and proceed to take Steelport from the Syndicate and establish Saint dominance over the city. Things get more complicated once rival gangs like the Luchadores and the Deckers pick fights with the Saints. Not only do the Saints have to deal with these rival gangs but they also must deal with a paramilitary group named STAG which is obsessed with taking down the Saints. The situation gradually escalates into an all out war that spreads across the entire city. While the series has always had humor, this game is known for taking the series into a more overtly comedic direction and parodying all sorts of pop culture. The situations in the game are also much more outrageous with the Boss doing things like getting into a shootout while falling from a passenger jet which attempts to ram him/her, using a chainsaw in a pro wrestling match, engaging in a gunfight while naked and in a drug-induced haze, etc. The game adopts a different visual style from past games; the entire game has a distinct purple tint matching the Saints' trademark color. It also has an original soundtrack composed by Malcolm Kirby Jr. The game also introduces science fiction elements in the series and the 3rd Street Saints have to deal with foes that possess futuristic technology. The sequel Saint's Row IV would build off of the ideas in this game and its DLC.
