Now Viewing: fly_agaricTag type: General ベニテングタケ (benitengutake) A large red-capped mushroom with white spots, also known as fairy toadstool and by its scientific name, Amanita Muscaria. Muscaria derives from Latin musca meaning "fly", since this mushroom attracts flies and other insects, and it can be powdered in milk to kill them; the same reason lies behind the common name fly agaric, i.e. "fly mushroom". Its distinctive features have made it the iconic toadstool in popular culture, notably as the inspiration for power-ups in Super_Mario_Bros. It is a known hallucinogen but can be made edible by boiling.
