Danbooru has skewered quality control. Take two images by the same artist and upload them to Danbooru, and watch one be approved and the other one get unapproved to deletion. Even if the artist is shitty, it is not uncommon for them to remove one of two images of shitty quality, or one of two images of decent quality. It is quite strange.
I'm sure its accidental a lot of the time, and I'm sure Gelbooru has done it a lot itself.
On a slightly unrelated note... I noticed that the ENTIRE time the non-Japanese rule was in place, Mike_Inel's non-Japanese art had several pages worth of content on the site.
As soon as the rule was changed and altered... his art almost completely disappeared. Very odd. Some of it is coming back though.
The reason a bunch of good stuff gets deleted there is because they have to approve every image that hits the site. You couple this with a bunch of "your taste>my taste" mods and I'm sure plenty of good images miss that site.
Ironically, E621 seems to do the best job running a booru site. They use mod verification only for DNP and TOS violations, the tagging (which I've no clue if it's done mostly by mods, members, or some combination) seems to be accurate most of the time, although they have a few aliasing problems FWIK. They also managed to come up with sensible, working solutions for when a bunch of shit happens. For instance, once MLP came out the site started getting flooded with asstons of MLP pictures. The solution? Improve the blacklisting system. Some shitty flash that got two new versions a day kept getting uploaded over and over, basically clogging up the flash tag. The solution? Tell them to upload a new version once a week, or something like that.
They also have a better site code and actually make money off of banner ads because you can actually get relevant banner ads when it comes to furry sites...wait why the hell did I go off on a tangent about E621? They don't even have translators.
