This would defeat the purpose of the tag blacklist, I feel.

They already said they can't do it, so it's a moot point. But it wouldn't effect the tag blacklist any, as it wouldn't be showing the image, just a silly text error message. Plus this would only apply when someone tries to load an image's page, and wouldn't show up in search results at all.
