Japan Earthquake
Posted on: 01/01/24 05:46AM

Japan has just been struck with a deadly earthquake and possibly a tsunami will follow after.

Lets keep an eye on charity pages (from official sites) so we can at least send money to these people. I know ANN once did a couple so just anything, be prepared to give something. Especially in heightened geopolitical tension Japan needs to get back on its feet ASAP.

In the meantime lets all send our love for Japan. Not a good way to start the year! :(

Damn, well that sucks.

My utmost condolences. Guess all we can do is hope the tsunami doesn't actually occur.

My condolences.

It's weird that earthquakes is almost common here.

The island is very flat and its sat between 2 plates. Sometimes these plates cause friction and starts to grind together, this causes rumbles, earthquakes etc. This causes a disruption in the sea and you get a tsunami. Thats sort of like a very basic newbie explanation of why it happens. We rarely get them in the UK because we are quite mountainous, we're not close to the sea. We do get them but only very minor and isolated, probably once every few years?

That sucks... Guess those earthquakes in Peru and Chile were precursors

My condolences. Sometimes you think that this kind of thing can't happen on these dates.

Something curious is that in Chile the perception of reality is totally altered, and everything that is below 7.0 is not generally considered an earthquake.

Well, the report I saw is that there were no fatalities. 6 people were buried but then rescued. Lots of damage though.

It's like living in a geologically active area has consequences or something.
