Elven slaves in fantasy
Posted on: 01/05/24 02:28AM

I mean, i get the appeal, having a family heirloom that is completely loyal to not only you, but to your entire bloodline, ancestors and descendants. And in some way i can get why the idea of passing down your elf slave girl to your son once he is old enough is kinda hot.

The thing is, is there even a justification for why an elf, a creature that have:
-immortality
-magic
-heightened senses
-greater intelligence and wisdom than any other creature in the world
Would end up as a mere slave bound to a family of humans, beings that are inferior in many ways to elves, and forced to serve them?

That's a problem in general with fantasy or isekai anime, Japanese fantasy don't know how elves (or any immortal and powerful creature) works. The only one i see that got it right was Frieren.

Now i don't have a problem if you have elven slaves in your story as long as it is properly justified, but most of the time it isn't.

Frieren? Nah, see Elder Scrolls. Straight up High Elf Nazis there.

Yeah, i admit i have a blatant fetish. That doesn't mean i don't want to see good writign in media. To me it isn't enough if it caters to my fetish, but it also needs to be objectively good, that's why i don't enjoy the majority of isekai shows, despite having slave harems (another thing i don't like, for the reason that it is used as a cheap and lazy way to get a girlfriend, but skipping the bonding phase because the author seemingly doesn't know how humans interact. And the whole "She likes to be a slave, so it's okay, because the MC is not like other guys" seems like a copout to me, i don't like it).

Is it really slavery if you're using, basically robots to do menial labor? Is like asking how do i make a farm tractor slave harem, that's nonsense.

I haven't played an Elder Scrolls game yet. But that's the other extreme of the trope, though that one is more okay to me considering that it makes more sense for elves to be the dominant species instead of humans, unlike you give humans something like "A greater determination and will to live" or "Ambition to go further than their base status" or some kind of sleeper greater power than elves don't have which secretly makes humans superior.

Well, more than realistic, it should be internally believable, If you go for realism in anything, you'll meet a lot of roadblocks.
Does the way that slavery works in this setting make sense within its internal logic? Is it also sexy within that framework of believability? Those are the actual questions to make.

Maybe i'm not the one to talk about realism or believability considering the stuff i commission (shilling incoming, watch out!) but at least i try to maintain internal logic in my isekai commission series as much as possible, even if it doesn't make sense in a realistic sense. Though i admit in commiting the sin of creating the rules of my world around being sexy first and making sense second.
