Anon 1: yes, it is lava. Aisha kept bitching about the hot springs not being hot enough and found herself a volcanic crater to bathe in.

Anon 2: Episode 24, Hot Springs Planet Tenrei. Never aired on American broadcast TV for obvious reasons, they skipped directly from 23 to 25. You'll need the DVDs or a DVD rip. Gene and the gang go to a resort planet so he can find this powerful magician to get the most powerful shells for his Caster (shells #4, #9 and #13 if I remember correctly). While the rest of the crew has wacky naked hijinks Gene keeps trying to climb a mountain to find the magician but has repeated hilarious mishaps with its unorthodox security system which involves avalanches and enormous snowballs. The end result of one such encounter is him landing in Aisha's lava pool.

P.S. This planet looks fucking awesome. Mile-long waterslides!

It's not lava because the trees around it would be on fire if that were the case. Also Gene and Aisha would not survive it, they'd combust and literally melt into plasma.
