yeah. it helps a little the fact their female characters are attractive, but so what?

Since I was a kid, I felt attracted to peach. and I don't think that made any more pervert that I am
that wasn't my only motivation to play mario (or any nintendo game), but the cute draws of peach (or zelda, or malon, etc) certainly made the whole experience more enjoyable

besides. this is just fan art, and its not even a porn one

Anons 3 & 4 - There's also the fact they know that not all the players will be children, making sex appeal much more noticeable and profitable. I think I have seen more adults sporting items with Mario references than little kids, so giving Peach an awesome rack would be a smart marketing choice.
