Back in my high school days we had a few athletic coaches teach various subjects in order to get full teacher benefits and pensions.

One day the teacher/coach called on one student to answer a question he wrote down on the chalk board. The little shit replied with a harsh tone "why should I care? You only care about coaching the football team."

The anger that lit in the teacher eyes burned brightly. He courageously did not even hit the student for his remark. When class was over, he called him out to stay for a small discussion. The last thing I've heard come out of the classroom was the door knob locking in place, a furious speech that could be heard in the cafeteria, and the sobbing cries of a little boy.

True story.

^ True that.
Just because you are known for one thing doesn't mean you don't care about anything else. Knew a few teacher like that...coaching sports was more of a hobby, teaching everything else was their dream job.
