Apart from introducing Gohan to his future wife and maybe allowing him to pursue whatever unimportant job he has later in life, that whole school subplot was almost pointless. In fact why did Chi-Chi keep trying to separate Gohan from Goku’s friends when Bulma, a rich super genius inventor was one of them?

I think Chi-Chi knew of all of the crazy stuff that Bulma did with Goku so maybe she thought Bulma would take Gohan on the same crazy adventures. Hell if I was his father I would send him right to Bulma's house since her and her father are the two smartest living humans on the planet. But that's just me
