I really like Alex's group art for Skullgirls.
This piece in particular. I think it does a pretty good job at communicating the role and importance of each character with just how he places them and highlights them.

Marie is front and center, as obviously she's the Skullgirl. But she has more a 'damsel in distress' kind of pose going on. She doesn't look threatening, she looks like she's unconscious. Probably reflecting how she's the villain, but not really. Note how she also has full shading.
Filia and Squigly as both flanking her aggressively. Pretty obvious they're both trying to be the hero and stop Marie. Filia and Squigly also have shading, but less so than Marie.

Behind Filia and Squigly, you have almost the rest of the cast in portrait. Painwheel and Peacock are right next to each other. Possibly intentional as they're both Anti-Skullgirl Labs experiments. Painwheel is opposite Valentine, again likely referencing their relationship. Further to the sides, you have Ms. Fortune opposite Cerebella to reflect their rivalry and Parasoul opposite Big Band possibly because they're both authority figures. Beowulf is across from Robo, and Fukua outright looks lost and confused. All these characters have flat coloring with no shading.

But unbeknownst to them, Double has all of them in her mouth. No doubt reflecting her level of control over the setting, her threat and her importance. Like Marie, she's fully shaded.
Double is also flanked by uncolored profiles Venus and Aeon, the former is looking down at the cast.
Below you have a very sinister looking Eliza who is lurking beneath the cast. She emanates danger and an upcoming, but non-immediate threat.

To kind of add to this line:
Double is inches away from swallowing the cast, while the Filia and Squigly are focused more on Marie.
I do wonder if this is intentional on Alex's part, because it kind if does reflect an aspect of the story. The Skullgirls, Marie in particular, are just one part of the Trinity's plot. They're dangerous, but they're only a small piece of the plan and goal. The cast are only aware of the Skullgirl as being a threat, when it's the Trinity pulling the strings of every Skullgirl in history.
