I was a fan of this position...until somebody told me that it's mainly for show and it's impossible for the woman to hold this position more than a couple of seconds. And if she doesn't feel ok, what's even the point?! yeah I know it's hentais hence fantasy, but the practical impossibility of this thing ruined my total enjoyment of it.

idk who told you that, there's plenty of real porn with the amazon position. I would definitely not say it's impossible to hold for a couple of seconds. It's definitely not as simple as just laying down like a dead fish in the missionary position, so it does take some effort to do it. The point is that in most cases it's to make their partner happy by having them being dominated and being submissive since society deems it should be the other way. Or just that they genuinely are a top and want to be in control.

That said, there are several ways with which a woman can feel dominant, and the first thing is...having someone who follows what she tells and truly cares about her wishes and desires before his or her own, possibly just for the sake of doing it. That is the most difficult thing there is and it doesn't require a particular position to begin with. Yet, it's the most satisfying at the end of the day for both the parties included.
