One thing I don't understand is why not download raws so that there aren't any subtitles to get in the way? Lots of editors do this. Frankly I wouldn't be comfortable using hard subs if I made anything of this sort, and would only do it if there was absolutely no alternative, and would in that case re-edit the video as soon as one was made available.
