The song spread quickly on the internet for being the music to which Popotan's Mai and Mii dance to. The dance is called "ｳｯｰｳｯｰｳﾏｳﾏ(ﾟ∀ﾟ) (U-u-uma uma)" or "ウマウマダンス (Uma uma dance)" in Japan. Interestingly, the vast majority of posts under this tag reference the visual part of the flash, which comes from the opening animation of the Popotan game and has nothing to do with the Caramell song. Fans often swap Mai and Mii with various other anime characters. The song's and dance's memetic popularity amongst anime fans ended up influencing Caramell, whose original members had split up 2002, to be revived in 2008 under the new name Caramella Girls and with new members. The official music video of the song also featured original anime style girls imitating Mai and Mii's movements.
