The franchise was created by Bushiroad and started n October 2020 with the release of a manga penned by Kurasaki_Moroko, followed by a video game titled D4DJ Groovy Mix, and then an anime series that ran from October 30, 2020 to January 29, 2021. The anime was directed by Mizushima Seiji and written by Zappa Gou. The second season, D4DJ All Mix, began on January 13, 2023. The music was composed by Sataka Ryouhei. The franchise notably shares many seiyuu with fellow Bushiroad franchise Bang Dream! The series is set in Yoba Girls' Academy, which is known for its DJ music units. The music produced by said units is even played during lunch time. Aimoto Rinku is an optimistic teen girl who has just recently returned to Japan after spending a long time in Africa with her parents. When she hears a nostalgic tune over the school radio, she immediately rushes to the broadcasting room where she becomes acquainted with aspiring DJ Akashi Maho. Maho introduces Rinku to the world of DJing and quickly discovers that Rinku not only has a passion for music, but also a keen sense of rhythm. Maho is inspired to form a new DJ unit with Rinku and the two of them set out to pursue their newfound musical dreams.
