Now Viewing: destroyer_water_oniTag type: Character 駆逐水鬼 A type of abyssal_ship (shinkaisei-kan) in Kantai_Collection. A special boss-type enemy in Kantai_Collection, introduced in the Fall 2015 event, centered around the Solomon Islands Campaign [1]. She has long_hair, white_hair, pale_skin, and orangish-red_eyes. She has what looks like half a Shinkaisei-kan destroyer on her head with glowing_eyes worn like a hat. Underneath the teeth, she is wearing shreds of a black_serafuku on top, and black boots and gloves. On her back is a hip-mounted Shinkaisei-kan variation of a destroyer shipgirl combat gear, with two large black arms bearing twin-cannon turrets. She notably holds a blue tasuki, similar to the one Kaga_(Kantai_Collection) wears. She is likely an homage to the destroyers sunk in the Battle of Vella Gulf [2], where four IJN destroyers, Hagikaze_(Kantai_Collection), Arashi_(Kantai_Collection), Shigure_(Kantai_Collection), and Kawakaze_(Kantai_Collection), were completely surprised by an American force of six destroyers in the middle of the night due to Americans using radar on their destroyers, while the Japanese did not. (This being one of the first times the Japanese used destroyers on their own without a cruiser leader.) The battle was a disastrous rout for the Japanese, with the Americans destroying all but Shigure and never receiving any return fire, and afterwards, the Japanese gave up even trying to resupply their Solomon Island bases with destroyers, significantly hastening Japan's bloody retreat in the Solomon Islands Campaign. Destroyer Water Oni may be a corrupt reflection of the merger of the three sunken destroyers, like Light_Cruiser_Oni, or may simply be the abyssal version of Hagikaze_(Kantai_Collection) alone, whose side_ponytail is not easily distinguishable, considering the visible tie to Kaga_(Kantai_Collection).
