The game is actually titled Sonic the Hedgehog, but as that is the name of the series as a whole and the title of the first game, use this tag to avoid confusion. It was released for the XBOX 360 and Playstation 3. It is directed by Nakamura Shun. The story was written by Nakamura Shun, Yoshikawa Kiyoko, and Maekawa Shiro. Mikame_Akira did the artwork for the game. Music is composed by Ohtani Tomoya, Senoue Jun, Sato Taihei, Eguchi Takehito, Nanba Mariko, and Kobayashi Hideaki. The game features three playable characters who have their own story modes that intertwine: Sonic, Shadow, and new character Silver. Sonic's gameplay segments consist of fast platforming, Shadow's features comparatively more combat, and Silver's makes use of his telekinetic powers. The Festival of the Sun has started in the city of Soleanna, but it is quickly disrupted by Eggman who is once again up to no good. He attempts to take the Flames of Disaster as well as a Chaos Emerald from Princess Elise's possession. Sonic intervenes, but Elise is captured. Sonic teams up with Tails to rescue Elise. Meanwhile, Shadow encounters a hedgehog who bears a strong resemblance to him named Mephiles the Dark. He had been sealed a Scepter of Darkness by Shadow ten years prior. Mephiles sends Shadow and Rouge into the future, which turns out to be a post-apocalytic one. Shadow and Rouge learn that this future is caused by the Flames of Disaster and what is known as the Iblis Trigger. Silver the Hedgehog and Blaze the Cat are residents of this future and they learn from Mephiles that Sonic is the Iblis Trigger. Mephiles sends the two back in time but the two are separated. Silver witnesses Eggman disrupting the Festival of the Sun and Sonic's escape and sets out to confront Sonic. This game is one of the most infamous games in the Sonic franchise and is often considered to be one of the lowest points in the franchise's history. The game was intended to celebrate the fifteenth anniversary of the Sonic franchise, but the developers were pushed to finish the game before the end of 2006 in order to make it on time for the anniversary. This contributed to the final product's numerous glitches and unfinished nature. The game's writers for the story were also fired from writing any more Sonic storylines. Despite the harsh criticism the game received upon release, it is still considered to be a main Sonic game and Sonic Generations included a remade version of Crisis City and Silver the Hedgehog as a boss fight. The song His World was included in Super Smash Bros. Brawl as well.
