Now Viewing: abyssal_shipTag type: General 深海棲艦 深海棲艦化 Abyssal ships (深海棲艦, shinkaisei-kan) are monstrous enemy ships in the Kantai_Collection universe. Abyssals are characterized by their pale_skin, black armor plates, glowing_eyes aqua_eyes, and many teeth. Alternate glows include red_eyes, yellow_eyes, and blue_eyes. The weaker versions tend towards being all black armor plates with fish-like forms, while the more powerful, "evolved" forms tend towards being humans with large black metal guns attached. In-between ships tend to have a human part (like just the torso or just the head) leading into metal-skull-crab parts. Just as player shipgirls take inspiration from real World_War_II Axis warships, many abyssal boss or event-type characters seem inspired by real-life bases or ships from the Axis or Allied sides. Earlier bosses notably were more Allied (including Port Darwin as Seaport_Princess or Isolated_Island_Oni as Wake Island) while more recent bosses are clearly meant to reflect corrupt versions (dark_persona) of Japanese ships (Aircraft_Carrier_Water_Oni as "dark Shoukaku_(Kantai_Collection)" or Destroyer_Hime as "dark Harusame_(Kantai_Collection)"). Abyssal ships were designed and illustrated by Oguchi_(OGch) (Sugimoto_Gang) (regular enemies) and a Kadokawa illustrator called Akira_(Kadokawa) (boss characters & submarines).
