He is a tall dark-haired teen boy who usually wears a school uniform at school and a blue samui outside of school. He was raised by his grandpa, a Hina doll craftsman, since his actual parents have long since passed away by the start of the series. Gojou has always been fascinated with his grandpa's craft and has spent his life studying it. Unfortunately, when a childhood friend found about his passion, she rejected him, labeling him as a creep because, in her mind, boys shouldn't enjoy dolls. Gojou never gave up his passion, but this experience greatly damaged his confidence in social interaction and he spent his life up until high school as a withdrawn loner, always keeping to himself out of fear of being judged like he was as a boy. For similar reasons, he is also hesitant to speak up for himself. He quickly becomes attracted to Kitagawa Marin because she is the first person outside of his grandpa to praise and accept Gojou's passion. Thanks to Marin's encouragement and outgoing nature, Gojou is exposed to a variety of new experiences, which also helps out in his own art. Gojou helps Marin fulfill her own passion for cosplay. In contrast to Marin, Gojou is more nervous when it comes to sexual matters and easily gets flustered whenever Marin teases him. Gojou is very analytical in his approach to his craft. Even though he isn't a dedicated anime/manga fan like Marin, he always does extensive research on whatever cosplay Marin wants to do. When he's working on or preparing for the cosplay, he focuses completely on the task on the hand and tunes out everything else around him, even sexual situations that normally embarrass him. In Japanese and English, he is voiced by relative newcomers to anime voice acting. In Japanese, he is voiced by Ishige_Shouya in his first lead role and Takayanagi_Tomoyo as a young boy. In English, he is voiced by Paul Dateh in his professional voice acting debut, and Jack Britton as a young boy.
