Now Viewing: shin_mazinger_zeroTag type: Copyright 真マジンガーZERO A super robot action manga reboot of Mazinger Z. It is part of the Mazinger_(series). In spite of its similar name, it has no relation to the anime Shin Mazinger besides being a reboot of Mazinger Z. It ran from April 18, 2009 to October 19, 2012. It was written by Tabata Yoshiaki and drawn by Yugo_Yuuki who previously worked on the Ookami no Monshou remake and Akumetsu. This incarnation of the series places more focus on Minerva X, originally a single episode only supporting character in the anime. The series begins like regular Mazinger Z, following teen hero Kabuto Kouji, the descendent of famous scientists, who lives a peaceful school life with his friends and his girlfriend Sayaka. The only thing that seems strange is that Kouji is often plagued with vivid apocalyptic nightmares that involve him, his friends, Mazinger Z, and an android woman who seems to be familiar with him. His peaceful life comes to an end when he and his girlfriend Sayaka are called into her father's office and shortly afterwards, an escalating series of tragedies happen that culminate in his nightmare coming true and him being put down by the aforementioned android. . . Only for him to wake up right in the middle of a battle with Dr. Hell's mechanical beasts alongside Sayaka. The two of them win the battle and thing seem to return to normal only for the android to suddenly transfer into his school. Said android is Minerva X, and she is on a mission to avert the apocalypse that Koji has dreamed of, a mission that she has failed many times to the point that she's close to succumbing to despair. However, this time, she believes that Koji and his comrades may have a chance to avert the disaster she fears. . . This series is notably darker, more violent, and more sexual than most adaptations of the Mazinger franchise. However, it still features the over the action and hot-blooded heroics that the franchise made famous. It also elevates Minerva X, originally a single episode supporting character in the original anime, into a main character. Although it's a manga and doesn't have any real music, the text makes use of several Mazinger-related songs during certain key moments. Like many Nagai Gou-based works, it also includes characters from his other manga in supporting roles. This incarnation of Mazinger has also received representation in the mecha crossover game, Super Robot Wars, debuting in Super Robot Wars V.
