The soundtrack was composed by Fujisawa Yoshiaki who also worked with the two on No Game No Life Zero. The anime was preceded by a companion manga that started on December 27, 2017 and the anime ran from January 2, 2018 to March 27, 2018. Tamaki Mari, nicknamed Kimari, is a friendly and cheerful teen girl who attends Tatara West High School with her best childhood friend Takahashi Megumi. While Kimari enjoys her time there, she is constantly bothered by the feeling that she has yet to make the most of her youth because she has previously shied from every opportunity she has to do something different. However, a chance meeting with Kobuchizawa Shirase changes things. Upon returning an envelope that Shirase accidentally dropped, she learns that Shirase dreams of going to Antartica to search for her mother who was last seen there, a dream that is often ridiculed by her classmates. The envelope consists of all of the money she saved over the years for the trip. Inspired by Shirase's determination and her dream, Kimari seizes the chance to make the most of her youth, volunteering to join Shirase in assembling a crew to head to Antartica, the mythical 'place further than the universe.'
