It has also been adapted into a 4-koma manga called Kyoukaisen-jou no Horako-san by Hani_Kuraun. It is set in a distant future where Earth has been rendered inhospitable except for Japan. Humanity has attempted to leave the planet but finds themselves mysteriously unable to leave. Pocket dimensions have been developed around Japan to prevent overpopulation. In order to one day travel to space, humans have decided to reenact history according to the way it is recorded in the religious text Holy Book Testament and the Testament Union was formed to study this text and ensure that humanity follows it. These developments lead to the beginning of the Testament Era of human history. On 1413 of the Testament Era, Japan was conquered by the pocket dimensions and divided into various fiefdoms and its inhabitants have been forced out of the land. The original Japanese inhabitants live on the massive spaceship Musashi which is large enough to hold cities. The original inhabitants of Japan become known as the Far East group. The series begins on the year 1648 and follows the residents of Musashi. In this series, the student council wields enough political power that their decisions can affect the world. Aoi Toori is the President of the Student Council as well as the head of the Musashi Ariadust Academy's Supreme Federation. Although he occupies an important position, he seems to be a carefree young man who spends most of his time fooling around, playing eroge, and flirting with his female classmates. Aoi has feelings for an amnesiac female android clerk named P-01s that works at the local bakery because she strongly resembles his deceased childhood friend Horizon Ariadust. Aoi plans to confess his feelings for her but he often gets too nervous to do so. At the same time, the Testament Union has discovered that the Holy Book Testament does not say what happens after the year 1648. Now that the future is uncertain, tensions begin rising amongst the nations of the world and rumors of an apocalypse begin spreading. War breaks out after the capital city of the Far East, Mikawa is intentionally destroyed by its own leader Matsudaira Motonobu who also goes down with the city after the population has been evacuated. Matsudaira was Horizon's father and the creator of a special super weapon called the Mortal Sin Armament whose parts have been divided into eight pieces based on the Eight Evil Thoughts and are possessed by the members of the Testament Union. Just before his death, Matsudaira reveals that there is a ninth piece and the ninth piece is P-01s who is, in fact, Horizon Ariadust; her soul has been transplanted into an android body and each piece of the Mortal Sin Armament contains her emotions. Because they have been split apart, she has become near emotionless. Now that her father is dead, Horizon is automatically designated as the leader of Mikawa. Horizon is captured by the Testament Union and has to pay the price for her father's actions. Twelve hours after her capture, she will be ordered to commit suicide. Aoi has no intention of allowing Horizon to be killed and he is inspired to lead Musashi to rescue Horizon, reclaim Japan as Musashi's homeland, recover the other Mortal Sin Armaments, and prevent the potential apocalypse. The series blends large scale battles, ecchi humor, romance, and political intrigue. It also features a large amount of busty females with very long hair in the cast as well as some exaggerated character designs. Although it is a science fiction story, it draws on a lot of history and many of the characters are named after real life historical figures. The characters' costumes often resemble period costumes with a slight futuristic twist. The series is unusually long for a light novel; an individual volume can reach thousands of pages long. Furthermore, each volume consists of two-three books. The novels were quite successful and by 2012, the series became the 13th top selling light novel series with about 409,949 copies sold. The series also uses quite a few terms and expressions that are unique to this work's universe such as the word Jud, pronounced Judge, an affirmative comment that is used by Musashi's inhabitants. The anime adaptation notably features a large amount of well known voice actors voicing the series' massive ensemble cast.
