The blood-sucking humanoid is tagged as just vampire. The games' artwork is done by Bengus. The original game debuted on June 30, 1994. The series expanded on what players can do in a fighting game. They added the ability for players to perform chain combos, leading to potentially longer combos in comparison to past fighting games, and air blocking. They also featured a special move meter that can be filled up so that the player can perform a powerful special move. However, the meter will steadily deplete even if the player does not use the special move so the player can't hold back his/her special move indefinitely. Quite a few of the series mechanics have also appeared in subsequent 2D fighting games. The series has detailed sprite animation that is reminiscent of early-mid twentieth century cartoons. When characters get hit, they often make an exaggerated pained expression. The characters' bodies can stretch in ways that would be impossible in real life. This animation style is used for comedic and, in the case of characters with more gruesome abilities like Jedah_Dohma, horrific effect. Every playable fighter, save Bulleta, is either a supernatural being or a human with special powers. While the series has not had a new entry since the third Vampire game in 1997, its characters have often appeared in crossovers. It is also responsible for introducing one of Capcom's most iconic female characters, Morrigan_Aensland, who displaced every other character and even this series in popularity and has the most crossover appearances out of the entire cast. The games were adapted into a Western animated TV series, an anime OVA, and manga adaptations.
