Now Viewing: i-14_(kantai_collection)Tag type: Character 伊14 I-14 is the second of the two Type-AM submarines actually completed (alongside her sister ship, I-13_(Kantai_Collection)), as portrayed (personification) in the video game Kantai_Collection. Like other submarines with numbers instead of names, she has a goroawase [1] nickname: Iyo. Iyo has a forceful, energetic, proud, and somewhat childish personality, in stark contrast to her much meeker (and far more unfortunate) older sister, who is nicknamed Hitomi. I-14 has brown_eyes and short_hair, black_hair with hair_between_eyes and asymmetrical_hair (a single long sidelock on her right side). I-14 wears a school_swimsuit with "イ14" emblazoned over her hip. Over this, she wears a serafuku-style shirt (sailor_collar) with a large cut-out for her chest and a neckerchief. On her head, she wears headphones with a hat shaped like a submarine's bow. On her arms, she has a miniature submarine sail [2] strapped to her left upper arm. Unlike her sister's, hers has an open hanger and launch catapult. She also wears partly_fingerless_gloves. Metal rings are on her thighs, and she wears toeless high_heel_boots whose heels are ship keels. The Type-AM submarine was a specialized long-range submersible carrier, designed to hold two Aichi_M6A_Seiran floatplanes for remote aerial operations. "Type-AM" means it was a "Modified" "Type-A", of which only one ship, the I-12 was completed, creating a larger submarine than the I-12 to carry the larger Seiran fighters. The I-400-class (I-401_(Kantai_Collection)) succeeded the Type-AM, and was even larger, in order to carry three floatplanes and more fuel to perform even longer-range operations. The historical Imperial_Japanese_Navy's (IJN) I-14 was built quite late in the war, being commissioned only on March 15th, 1945, with only five months until the end of the war. Alongside her sister ship, I-13, she was sent on a mission [3] to transport two C6N_Saiun aircraft to Truk Naval Base, but I-13 did not survive. I-14 was then to perform a surprise attack [4] alongside I-400 and I-401 upon the US naval base at Ulithi Atoll, but Japan surrendered before the mission could be completed. After surrender, the US Navy took the I-14 to Hawaii for study, and then sank her to prevent the secrets of her construction from being studied by the Soviets. Fans have taken notice that her and I-13's hat look very similar to the Pokémon Garchomp.
