It is a superhero action anime film animated by Kamikaze Douga and distributed by Warner Bros, and is notable for being the first Japanese anime adaptation of the American superhero franchise. Its cast and crew consist of many well known members of the anime industry. It is directed by Misuzaki Junpei, and the film is animated in similar style as Misuzaki's work on the Jojo no Kimyao na Bouken TV series. It was written by Nakashima Kazuki, and his take on Batman is similar to his other written works, a more upbeat story filled with over the top action. Its soundtrack is composed by Kanno Yuugo. The characters are designed by Okazaki_Takashi. It was released on April 24, 2018. Batman, in pursuit of Gorilla Grodd, confronts him and many of Batman's old nemeses at Arkham Asylum. What starts off as a routine adventure for Batman goes off the rails once a machine that Grodd is working on activates, sending everyone present back to feudal Japan. However, this feudal Japan has a major difference from historical feudal Japan. Once Batman arrives, he is accosted by samurai working for the Joker, and Batman learns that Joker and the other members of Batman's rogues gallery have become competing warlords, who are about to turn Japan into a battleground for their ambitions much like Japan's Sengoku period. Batman must work together with his fellow time displaced allies to stop his rogues gallery and return everyone to Gotham. The film has two voice tracks, English and Japanese. While both versions have the same general plot, the English script is not a direct translation of the Japanese script, and its dialogue was considerably rewritten by Leo Chu and Eric S. Garcia. This was because the Japanese script they were given was very vague and sparse, but the animation footage was completed, so they decided to write their own dialogue based off of the animation.
