It is a Japanese/American co-production and consists of 9 short episodes, animated by various popular anime studios and created by a variety of popular anime creators and Star Wars fans who were not beholden to adhering to the main franchise's canon, giving them creative freedom to tell stand alone stories that they want to tell within the Star Wars universe. It premiered on Netflix on September 22, 2021 with all of its episodes released simultaneously. The series has an English and a Japanese voice track. The English voice cast features many actors who more known for live action work and many actors who are of East Asian descent. The Japanese track features many popular anime seiyuu in its cast. The episodes consist of: Episode 1: The Duel A futuristic jidai geki story inspired by Kurosawa Akira films. It follows a ronin who decides to use his lightsaber skills to defend a village from Stormtrooper bandits. It was directed by Mizuno Takanobu and written by Okazaki Takashi, both of whom had previously worked on anime that fused a feudal Japan setting with futuristic tech. It was animated by Kamikaze_Douga which uses 3d CG and is rendered in near black and white, with the only other color coming from lasers. The soundtrack was composed by Inai Keiji. Cast: Ronin_(Star_Wars) Bandit_Leader_(Star_Wars) Village_Chief_(Star_Wars) Episode 2: Tatoonie Rhapsody A lighthearted rock musical story that follows a popular rock band led by Jay, a former Jedi student, and his attempts to keep his best friend and bandmate, Geezer, from being executed by Jabba the Hutt. This is the only episode to feature characters from the main franchise. It was directed by Kimura Taku and written by Atarashi Yasumi. It was animated by Studio_Colorido. The soundtrack was composed by Dewa Yoshiaki. Cast: Jay_(Star_Wars) Geezer_(Star_Wars) K-344 Boba_Fett Jabba_the_Hutt Lan_(Star_Wars) Episode 3: The Twins The story follows a set of powerful twins, Am and Karre, who were created by the First Order. While on a mission to attack the Republic, Karre suddenly defects from the First Order bringing him into conflict with his twin sister. It was animated by Studio_Trigger and directed by Imaishi_Hiroyuki. Like Imaishi's usual style, this episode is one of the most over the top in terms of action. It was written by Wakabayashi Hiromi. The characters were designed by Koyama_Shigeto. The soundtrack is composed by Oshima Michiru who also composed the score for the second Studio Trigger episode. Cast: Karre_(Star_Wars) Am_(Star_Wars) B-20N Episode 4: The Village Bride This episode revolves around a remote countryside tribe that has its own way of looking at the Force. The village chief's daughter makes the controversial decision to allow herself and her fiance to be taken away by Separatist forces occupying the land. A traumatized Jedi warrior only known as F and her explorer companion Valco must decide on whether to intervene. It was animated by Kinema_Citrus, directed by Haga Hitoshi, and written by Haga and Oonishi Takahito. The soundtrack was composed by Kevin Penkin with vocals by Emi Evans. Cast: F_(Star_Wars) Valco Asu_(Star_Wars) Saku_(Star_Wars) Izuma_(Star_Wars) Episode 5: The Ninth Jedi An episode set many years after the main Star Wars franchise timeline. The Jedi have become ancient legends, but a mysterious man named Juro Margrave sends out an invitation to Force-users around the galaxy, offering to give them lightsabers that he has crafted. This inspires multiple Force sensitive warriors to accept his invitation but also casts suspicion on Margrave's true intentions. This episode was animated by Production_I.G. and written and directed by Kamiyama Kenji. Toda Nobuko and Jinnouchi Kazuma composed the soundtrack. This episode is the longest out of the anthology, being the closest to the length of an average anime TV episode. Cast: Lah_Kara Juro_(Star_Wars) Lah_Zhima Ethan_(Star_Wars) Roden_(Star_Wars) Hen_Jin Episode 6: T0-B1 A Tetsuwan Atom-inspired story that follows a young robot boy and his quest to become a Jedi warrior. It was animated by Science_Saru, directed by Abel Gongora and written by Kido Yuichiro. The soundtrack was composed by A-bee and Shibuya Keiichi. Cast: T0-B1 Mitaka_(Star_Wars) Episode 7: The Elder This episode follows an investigation conducted by two Jedi, Dan and his experienced mentor Tajin. The two of them explore a remote planet thanks to Tajin sensing a disturbance in the Force, which leads them to a mysterious old man who becomes the most dangerous opponent they have ever faced. This is the second episode animated by Studio_Trigger and is written and directed by Trigger's co-founder Ohtsuka Masahiko. However, this episode is much more subdued in tone and style than The Twins. Cast: Tajin_(Star_Wars) Dan_G'vash Elder_(Star_Wars) Episode 8: Lop and Ochou This episode focuses on Lop, a rabbit girl and former slave, who is freed from bondage and welcomed into a human family by Ochou and her father Yasaburo. After many years of happiness, the family bond is put to the test when Ochou and Yasaburo disagree over how to deal with the Empire taking over their home planet. The former wants to work with the Empire while the latter wants to resist it. Lop, who wants to keep the family together, is forced to decide on who to side with. This episode was animated by Geno_Studio and directed by Igarashi Yuki and written by Sayawaka. The soundtrack was composed by Dewa Yoshiaki. Cast: Lop_(Star_Wars) Ochou_(Star_Wars) Yasaburo_(Star_Wars) Imperial_Officer_(Star_Wars) Episode 9: Akakiri This episode follows the quest of Jedi Tsubaki and princess Misa to reclaim the latter's throne from Misa's Sith aunt Masago. This episode was the second one animated by Science_Saru, but is considerably darker in tone than T0-B1. It was directed by Choi Eunyoung and written by Kido Yuichiro. The soundtrack was composed by U-Zhaan.
