pixiv is a website where a vast majority of Japanese artists upload their works. It serves as a major source of images on Gelbooru.

This page will describe how to upload from pixiv, in addition to how to handle new artist entries in the case an entry doesn't already exist for the artist you're uploading a work from.

Searching

When searching by tag, Pixiv has a limit of 1000 pages for results. To bypass this limit, use the URL addon ecd. ecd takes in as input a calendar date of the format YYYY-MM-DD.

Example:

www.pixiv.net/search.php?s_mode=s_tag&word=ガールズ%26パンツァー&p=1&ecd=2016-06-08

Another benefit to using ecd is that posts will no longer scroll forward as new posts get added.

Uploading

Here's the ideal procedure when uploading from Pixiv.

1. Click on each individual image you wish to upload to display the original, full-size version - these are the images you must upload. For more technical details, please read the following:

Pixiv has reduced-size versions of its images known as pixiv_samples, none of which should be uploaded here.

The link to the image you wish to upload should look like this: http://i1.pixiv.net/img-original/img/2014/09/30/21/22/44/1498651_p0.jpg (current)

Since Gelbooru does not support direct linking to the image URL, the source URL should look like this:

http://www.pixiv.net/member_illust.php?mode=medium&illust_id=42873633 (direct HTML URL)

Pixiv has changed over the years, and some schemes are outdated. These may include full-size images with URLs like this:

http://i2.pixiv.net/img46/img/ilove-th/27227922.jpg (outdated full-size image URL)
http://i1.pixiv.net/img105/img/macoillust/42873633_big_p0.jpg (outdated full-size gallery image URL)

And sample files (Thumbnails and doujin previews you should never use) that look like this:

http://i1.pixiv.net/c/1200x1200/img-master/img/2014/09/30/21/22/44/1498651_p0_master1200.jpg (current sample URL, DO NOT UPLOAD)
http://i1.pixiv.net/img105/img/macoillust/42873633_p0.jpg (outdated sample URL)
http://i2.pixiv.net/img46/img/ilove-th/27227922_m.jpg (outdated sample URL)

2. Use the artist tag detected when searching the Pixiv account URL in Danbooru's artist wiki ( danbooru.me/artists ), if there is one. If there is none, you may refer to the rest of this article on how to choose an artist name and make an entry for them, or ask for assistance in the Gardener's Guild forum thread: gelbooru.com/index.php?page=forum&s=view&id=1706

3. Remember to tag (howto:tag) the rest of your upload and follow the rest of the procedures under howto:upload.

Artist naming

Rule of thumb is: Make a simple, readable, and memorizable tag.

The first choice is to use the artist's real name if you can find it on any websites or blogs listed on their pixiv profile. See howto:artist for advice on finding the artist's name on their website.

If none exist, the name they use on pixiv is listed under their profile picture or in the Nickname field of their pixiv profile.

Once you have a name, use howto:romanize to romanize it. Name kanji often have several different readings, so it's best to use any available indicators (such as their twitter handle) on how to read the name. If you don't know how to read this name or are unsure of the correct reading, ask for help in forum #1706.

Note that Pixiv nicknames are not necessarily unique. If it is too generic ("Ken", "Daisuke", "Youko", etc.), add a qualifier to make it unique. Good choices for qualifiers include:

The artist's circle name
* e.g. gurande_(g-size)
The artist's twitter handle
* e.g. oyamada_(pi0v0jg)
The artist's pixiv username -- this can be found by clicking on their feed link and looking at the URL following /stacc/
* e.g. fool_(fuckinfool) (with the stacc link http://www.pixiv.net/stacc/fuckinfool)

Things to note

Do not use non-ASCII characters for the artist's name, even if they look like ASCII letters--Ryu is not the same as Ryu. Save that for the "Other names" field.
Do not use "_(pixiv)" or "_(artist)" as the qualifier. There are probably a dozen Pixiv artists named Sakura or Miki, so those qualifiers are simply not effective.
Try not to make a hard to read name like ken_(oooxvbgj).

Artist entries

To create or edit an artist entry, click the '?' next to the artist tag in the tag list. In the artist entry, add:

Other Names
The artist's Pixiv nickname (found under their profile picture).
Any other account names, Twitter handles, or nicknames on other sites the artist lists in their profile.

URLs
The Pixiv profile URL: www.pixiv.net/member.php?id=169099
URLs of any other websites the artist lists in their Pixiv profile.

See the last section of howto:artist for more information about artist entries. See help:pixiv api for information on Pixiv's API.
