Now Viewing: segaTag type: Copyright Covers games that Sega developed like Sonic or references to the company itself. A company that originated in 1940 when it was called Service Games. It was based in Hawaii, but moved to Japan in 1951. In its earlier years it specialized in arcade games and began making consoles during the 1980s. In 1988, Sega's most well known and successful console, Genesis, was released and during the 1990s, Sega grew to become Nintendo's biggest competitor in the video game market. Unfortunately for Sega, its later consoles failed financially. While the Saturn did well in Japan, it bombed in North America and the Dreamcast didn't do well either although some games released on those consoles are still very popular like the Sakura Taisen series and Jet Set Radio. Sega is now a third party developer and ironically, in light of the Nintendo vs Sega console wars of the 1990s, has developed games for Nintendo consoles although Sega has released games on the Playstation consoles and XBOX consoles.
